I started using Heartland within the last year and am impressed by how reliable and great they are to work with. If it rains on your mowing day, they make sure you are taken care of the next morning! Great customer service, on a personal level while still fully professional. Their prices are low compared to competitors and still do just as good of a job! I'd highly recommend their services!

Best lawn service ever. They always show up on the day scheduled and do a great job. I also appreciate the offers for leaf removal and cutting down a small tree in my back yard after the first hard snowstorm. I highly recommend this company for your lawn care needs.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! I’ve used Heartland now for 4 years and they’re great! Their work is the best! If I ever have any issue with a treatment not working for my grass the owner himself would come out and re-apply the treatment. My lawn never looked better! Not to mention they have extremely good rates with their treatment plan. I highly recommend them to anyone!!!

Heartland’s 7-Step Fertilization Program

We have developed a 7-step program that has helped us become one of the leading fertilization and weed control companies in Overland Park. From February to November, our technicians will visit your property up to 7 times in order to provide your lawn with the nutrition and protection it deserves. Below is a brief summary of how our fertilization and weed control treatments address the needs of your turf throughout different points in the year.

  • Treatment 1 (Mid February to Mid March): We apply a long-lasting, slow-release spring fertilizer to wake your lawn after dormancy, stimulate root growth, and carry your turf through the early season.
  • Treatment 2 (Late March to Late April): Pre-emergent is applied to control weeds that went dormant in the previous fall, and a broadleaf weed killer is applied to dandelions, clovers, thistles, etc.
  • Treatment 3 (Late April to Late May): Another broadleaf weed killer is applied alongside a balanced fertilizer to keep your lawn weed-free and maintain nutrient levels until the stress of summer.
  • Treatments 4 & 5 (Late May to Late June): Twice in the heart of summer, we apply a slow-release fertilizer that is designed to withstand the summer heat, and we spot spray any existing weeds.
  • Treatment 6 (Late September to Late October): Broadleaf weed control is applied to reduce weed activity between fall and the spring, with an emphasis on preventing mature weeds from dispersing seeds.
  • Treatment 7 (Late October to Late November): Our final treatment is a winterizing fertilizer that will sustain and protect your lawn through winter dormancy and into the next growing season.

The Effects Of Our Fertilizer Treatments

Your lawn needs to be fed certain nutrients in order to survive. The soil under your lawn actually contains the same nutrients that can be found in our fertilizers, but any number of environmental factors can lead to poor soil conditions and less nutrients. This is where Heartland Turf & Landscape comes in with premium fertilization services for Overland Park, KS.

Healthy levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrients are introduced at various stages of our fertilization program to replace any natural nutrients that get lost to soil erosion, weeds, lawn disease, etc. Struggling lawns can not afford to receive improper amounts of these nutrients from lesser lawn care companies.

Nitrogen

Nitrogen is the most important nutrient used to get your lawn looking lush and green. Nitrogen promotes the production of chlorophyll, which is what provides the dark green color for your grass. However, too much nitrogen can damage your turf and cause brown patches that are known as fertilizer burn. We always use the perfect amount of nitrogen in our fertilizers for optimal health!

Phosphorus

Phosphorus is the most important nutrient used for healthy root growth. When attempting to establish a new lawn, phosphorus is greatly beneficial to the development of the lawn’s root system. Healthier, stronger roots mean a better nutritional intake as your grass continues to grow, which will help protect your lawn from disease, pest infestation, weeds, and much more.

Potassium

Potassium enhances your turf’s ability to absorb other nutrients and water. Nitrogen and phosphorus intake will be optimized when proper amounts of potassium are applied to your lawn. This nutrient also helps develop proteins, starches, and cell walls in your grass, which help strengthen your lawn and defend it against harsh environmental factors.

Our Weed Control Services

Weed control is always most effective when it is paired with fertilization treatments. Without weed control, much of the nutritional value of fertilizers could be lost to any emerged or dormant weeds that may already be in your lawn. Weeds that are allowed to grow freely will steal all the nutrients of our fertilizers, which means fewer nutrition for your grass and more bare spots and thinning turf.

Our technicians are trained in the best methods and are provided with the most effective products to eradicate weeds from your property and make sure your lawn can grow to its full potential. We provide pre-emergent control early in the season to prevent weeds from germinating and sprouting, and post-emergent spot-treatment of weeds is provided throughout the year, as needed.

Additional Treatments For

Our fertilization and weed control program does more than what meets the eye. At Heartland, we know the success or failure of any good lawn care program depends on more than just basic fertilizing and weed removal. Multiple factors play a role in determining how effective a lawn care treatment can be, and there may be underlying conditions that render all efforts useless if they are not dealt with efficiently.

For such situations, we provide additional services as part of our larger fertilization program to give your lawn the best possible shot at healthy growth. Along with tailored fertilizer applications, we will inspect your property and treat your lawn in the following ways, if necessary.

  • Nutsedge Control: Also known as nutgrass and watergrass, this weed has increasingly become a problem in recent years. Multiple treatments may be necessary if you have a large infestation.
  • Preventative Fungicide: This lawn treatment prevents damage caused by fungal turf diseases like brown spot, rust, necrotic ring, and more by creating a barrier on your grass blades to discourage growth.
  • Curative Fungicide: If the preventative fungicide treatment was not applied and disease develops, this treatment will stop further damage by attacking the fungal spores directly.
  • Grub Control: Grubworms have the potential to inflict severe damage to a lawn if left untreated. Our grub control is absorbed by the turfgrass so that grubs are eradicated as they eat the roots of your lawn.
